Why Upgrading my Axial SCX24 Bronco was a Game-Changer for me
I have always been a fan of small-scale RC crawlers, and when I got my hands on the Axial SCX24 Bronco, I was excited to take it out for a spin. However, after a few runs, I quickly realized that there were some limitations to the stock setup. That’s when I decided to invest in some upgrades, and it completely transformed my experience with the SCX24 Bronco.
Firstly, the stock tires on the SCX24 Bronco were not providing enough grip on the terrain I was crawling on. This resulted in frequent slipping and sliding, making it difficult to control the crawler. Upgrading to high-traction tires not only improved the performance but also gave me better confidence while tackling challenging obstacles.
Another significant upgrade was replacing the stock motor with a more powerful one. The stock motor lacked torque, especially on steeper inclines or when crawling over rocks. With a more powerful motor, I noticed an immediate improvement in speed and crawling ability. It made navigating through tough terrains much easier and more enjoyable.

1. Motor and ESC Upgrade
The stock motor and ESC on the Scx24 Bronco are decent for beginners but can limit the truck’s potential. Upgrading to a higher quality motor and ESC will provide more power and speed, making your off-roading experience more exciting. I recommend the Holmes Hobbies TrailMaster Sport 540 27T Brushed Motor and Hobbywing QuicRun 1060 Brushed ESC as they are compatible with the Scx24 and provide a significant improvement in performance.
2. Metal Gears
The stock plastic gears on the Scx24 tend to wear out quickly, especially if you use your truck frequently. Upgrading to metal gears will not only increase durability but also improve the overall drivetrain efficiency. The stock suspension on the Scx24 is decent but can be upgraded for better stability and handling on rough terrains.
