I’ve been out of the blogging world for the past month adventuring through Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Though I didn’t blog while I was away, I shared some of my favourite design and decor inspirations through Twitter and Instagram.
Today I want to share with you about a decision I had to make during my bedroom restyle. I decided a true transformation of the space would have to include changing the wall colour, but should I use paint or wallpaper?
When I visited Home Smith I fell in love with this navy wall paper tucked away in the back. I learned that the wallpaper was from Thibaut.
I started taking my wall measurements and figuring out cost. I also considered colour and what kind of pattern I wanted. I have never put up wallpaper before, so there was a strong possibility I would do it wrong, make a mess, not like what I chose, or even change my mind, which would leave me with a costly mistake.
Amanda Forest was on The Marilyn Denis Show last week, and her talk couldn’t have come at a better time. She simply stated to choose paint over wall paper. Why? I have no idea, but it began to become more apparent.
Paint is easy to apply, it’s not terribly costly, and if I change my mind with the colour, it easily can be replaced. I felt more comfortable with this decision and given that my accent wall was one of the biggest and boldest changes in the space transformation, I didn’t want to risk a big mess.
I think I’d like to take on wallpaper sometime, but maybe for a smaller project with room for learning. So everyone has their own skill-set and I think it’s important to know where yours lies.
Some things to consider about painting or doing wall paper in a space transformation may include:
- Selection(colours, patterns or both?)
- Durability (Do you have children or pets? What kind of climate do you live in? Moist or dry)
- You! (Do you love change? Do you like things done quickly or can take your time?)
Regardless of what you choose, it will always be an exciting space transformation adventure! Hope this was helpful! Thanks for stopping by the blog today and have a great weekend!
