October is Occupational Therapy month! If you’ve never met an Occupational Therapist (OT) before, well you’re in luck! Here I am! And here’s my plug for OT! Occupational Therapy is one of the many health professions empowering people of any age to overcome physical and cognitive barriers to continue having the skills needed for the job of living.
I am sure you know someone, or may be someone who is affected by a cognitive or physical impairment. Think about what kinds of adaptations or accommodations you might need, or the things you’ve learned along the way. Did you have support from an OT?
Occupational Therapists are the bee’s knees when it comes to assessing and making recommendations for daily living. Take for example this bathroom. This isn’t just your average bathroom.
If you look closely, you may see some modifications you don’t recognize. Maybe a grab bar and a raised toilet seat?
While it may not look appealing to some, it’s a life-saver, and enables independence for others. These are just some simple adaptations that enable people to live a bit more independently doing their activities of daily living.
So if you meet an OT along your travels this month, don’t forget to wish them a happy OT month! Thanks for stopping by today! And happy OT month!
